College Governing Body

Composition:

The College Governing Body is the supreme administrative authority of the college and consists of the following members (as outlined in the Act and Statutes of MG University):

 Ex-Officio Members:

  • Manager of the College (Chairperson)
  • Principal of the College (Member Secretary)
  • Nominee by the University
  • Nominee by the Government
  • Two nominees from permanent teachers (one with over ten years of service, one with less)

Nominated Members:

  • Up to six persons nominated by the management

Leadership: 

  • The Manager of the college chairs the Governing Body meetings.
  • The Principal serves as the member secretary, responsible for administrative tasks related to the Governing Body.

Functions: 

Overall Direction and Strategy:

  • Governs and steers the college's overall direction and strategic development.
  • Adapts strategic plans and formulates new policies.

Financial Oversight: 

  • Oversees the college's finances and approves budgets.
  • Makes decisions regarding revisions to fees and infrastructure modifications.

Management Supervision:

  • Supervises and evaluates the functions of the college management.

Stakeholder Focus: 

  • Protects the rights, interests, and well-being of all college staff.
  • Steers relationships, collaborations, and alliances with relevant stakeholders.

Ethical Governance: 

  • Advocates for ethical practices and value implementation within the college.

Specific Duties (as per the Act and Statutes): 

  • Fix student fees and other charges based on recommendations from the Finance Committee.
  • Institute scholarships, fellowships, and awards based on recommendations from the Academic Council.
  • Approve the introduction of new programs leading to degrees and diplomas.
  • Establish other committees as deemed necessary for the college's development and objectives.
  • Meet at least twice a year.  Monitor and evaluate teaching programs and suggest improvements.
  • Appoint the Principal/Director and staff based on recommendations from selection committees.
  • Oversee faculty deployment, development, placement, and industry-institute interactions, suggesting remedial measures as needed.
  • Perform other duties entrusted by the management and the University.
  • Monitor institutional performance and quality assurance arrangements.

Meetings:

Meetings are convened at least twice a year, but additional meetings may be called by the Chairperson or upon request from a majority of members. Notice and agenda are circulated to members beforehand. Decisions are typically made by a simple majority vote, with the Chairperson holding the casting vote in case of a tie.
